I uninstalled the Windows update, did a system restore, and Chrome worked for a few seconds, then again wouldn't open any pages. I've uninstalled Chrome but this doesn't solve the problem. Windows just did an update (servicing pack stack update for W8.1 圆4) and now although I can open Google Chrome, but it won't open any webpages, the little circle thingy just goes round and round.
